The self-sealing, spring-loaded valve prevents oil from escaping during insertion of the detector body or quick-drain adapter.

  ADC Chip Detector

Chip detectors have been used with great effectiveness in helicopter and commercial aviation applications for years but until now have not been widely used in the general aviation market where their safety and cost-savings features have been overlooked.

Metal particles in the lubrication system of an aircraft engine or gearbox may be an indication of impending engine failure. Strategically located chip detectors not only warn of failure, but also aid in locating the failing part.

If the unit's magnet attracts and detects metal chips in the oil flow, it will activate a panel-mounted caution light, warning the pilot of its findings.

The ADC Chip Detector has a self-sealing valve which allows for inspection of the magnet without the need to first drain the oil, and a quick-release mechanism that eliminates the hassle of safety wiring after each inspection.

Also included with the kit is a quick-drain adapter which, when inserted into the chip detector body in place of the magnet, allows for the draining of engine oil without the need to remove the entire unit from the oil sump.
